Law and Driving Skill Optional for Kennedy
Is Patrick Kennedy following in his father's footsteps? All he lacks is a woman and a bridge, he has the driving skills down pat.
Three weeks ago Rep. Patrick Kennedy turned into oncoming traffic causing an accident. This week at 2:45 am he just missed plowing into a Capital Police car when he crashed into a barrier. The officers observed impaired behavior but were prevented from doing a sobriety test by superiors who showed up and took control of the investigation. They did not do a sobriety test either, they drove him home instead. At 10:00 am the Congressman issued a statement that he was not drunk, but was under the influence of prescription drugs. Now there are reports that a waitress at the Hawk and Dove claims he had been drinking there about an hour before the accident.
Patrick Kennedy has a history of poor behavior. Seems to be a family trait, but more disturbing is New England voter's inability to vote against a Kennedy. Having the Capital Police pandering to Congressmen doesn't help. It's not just the Kennedy's or the Democrats, members of Congress routinely act as privileged individuals not bound by the same laws they make the rest of us live under. One would think that Kennedy's admission that he was driving under the influence of prescription drugs would be enough the arrest him, but I'm not holding my breath.
