Once More Into the Breach

Finding Nonsense and Beating it Sensible

I used to watch TV news and yell at the box. Now I jump up from the couch, sit at the computer and begin to type laughing maniacally saying "Wait until they read this." It's more fun than squashing tadpoles

Obama Giving Away Free Yard Signs

I was somewhat amused when I got the following e-mail. What a great incentive, I get to meet Barack, well a chance to me him.

Dear Xyba,

People always ask me what they can do to help Barack win Virginia, and the answer is simple: get out and talk to your neighbors.

Face-to-face contact with undecided voters is the single most powerful thing you can do to help spread Barack's message of change.

And with all the distortions and smear campaigns out there, we're counting on supporters like you to spread the truth about Barack -- who he is and where he stands on the issues that matter to Virginians, like tax cuts for 95 percent of working families.

You can have a big impact right now by joining a Campaign for Change Virginia Truth Team.

This weekend and every weekend until Election Day, November 4th, supporters like you from all across Virginia are coming together for Truth Teams canvasses -- going out in teams to knock on doors and grow this movement for change.

And if you sign up for a Truth Teams Canvass and bring some friends along, you and a guest may be chosen to meet Barack the next time he comes to Virginia. Your name will be entered for each friend you bring -- so bring as many friends as you can, and make as big an impact as possible.

This weekend, bring your friends, go door-to-door, and make a difference for Barack right here in the commonwealth:

In just the last three months, supporters like you have led an unprecedented voter registration drive that has helped more than 110,000 Virginians register to vote.

It's a remarkable accomplishment. But with less than 50 days before Election Day, November 4th, we need to act right now to make sure that those voices are heard.

You can make a difference this weekend by bringing some friends with you to join a Truth Teams Canvass.

No experience is required. Campaign for Change staff will provide you with everything you need, every step of the way.

And if you bring a friend with you to canvass, you'll be entered for a chance to meet Barack the next time he visits Virginia.

Join a Truth Teams Canvass to grow this movement and for a chance to meet Barack:

Such an opportunity could not be passed up but then I get this email sweetening the pot. I suppose the chance to meet Obama was just not reving up the volunteers.

Dear Xyba,

I wanted to be sure you saw this note about how important supporters like you are going to be to our efforts right here in Virginia.

This state is a crucial general election battleground, and we have a real chance to win. But with less than 50 days left before November 4th and just two weeks left before Virginia's voter registration deadline, we need your help right now.

Joining a canvass at one of our 42 Campaign for Change offices this weekend is a great way to help grow this movement. But it's also a chance for you to meet Barack and get a yard sign.

For each friend who joins you going door-to-door on a Truth Teams Canvass, your name will be entered for a chance to meet Barack the next time he comes to Virginia. The more friends you invite, the better your chances.

And after you knock on just 40 doors, make sure you stop by the office in your area to pick up your free Obama-Biden yard sign.

Sign up now and make a difference in Virginia:

emphasis mine.

Good Googly Moogly! A FREE yard sign! That just sealed the deal for me. I'm going to round up some friends and knock on some doors so I can get my very own yard sign. If I'm really lucky maybe Obama will autograph it if I get to meet him.

UPDATE: 22 Sept. 6:24 pm. There are a pile of people hitting this post I assume because they want a free sign. I'd be asking myself if I were them why does a guy who has taken in $400 million can't let his supporters have a sign without charging them $8.00? While they're at it they may ask why a guy that has spent more than twice his opponent is still struggling to pull ahead?
