Another Restraining Order Fails to Restrain
One has to wonder why there even exists the thing we call a restraining order. Whom does it restrain? I see the only thing it provides is a false sense of security. But in the following case It would seem that the need for one would be enough of a reason to take the individual in question off the street, except for the fact that he was arrested and then released on bail!
A registered sex offender fatally shot a 17-year-old girl he had been harassing, then killed himself after an hour-long standoff with police Saturday, authorities said...
...Uslan posted bond and was released from jail Thursday. He entered the smoothie cafe where Carleo worked with a gun around 9:15 a.m. Saturday, police said.
"Unfortunately this mad man was not kept behind bars where apparently he should have been kept, and unfortunately we have a young girl who is now dead," [police] said.
The key words here are REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER and 17-YEAR-OLD GIRL HE HAD BEEN HARASSING. So what is he getting bail for? A registered sex offender who is harassing a teenager should have forfeited his right to be free to roam the streets by virtue of his past performance. The sooner authorities accept the fact that child molesters are not easily rehabilitated, if at all, the safer our children shall be.
My suggestion would be forget the restraining order, buy a gun, learn how to use it and be prepared to do so. Oh unless one is a minor and the law prevents one from defending oneself from predators authority's let out on the street.
