North Korea fires series of missiles
North Korea has launched their missile only to see it fail after 40 seconds. Hey followed up with five SCUD launches that landed in the Sea of Japan. What is important is not that their long range missile was a bust, but what the US and Japan do about it. Is we are perceived by North Korea as having a weak response then we can expect to see more of this in the future only with an escalated intent. It shouldn't be hard to put the screws to a nation's government that throws money away on missile launches while their people starve.
One positive move would be to fulfill the offer to deploy Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile batteries in Japan. This would move our defense forward and arm an ally that is quite serious about dealing with this problem. Their culture and history make them the natural go between. China may be embarrassed by the launch, but they have a history of protecting the North Koreans that can't be ignored even if it is no longer valid.
