Once More Into the Breach

Finding Nonsense and Beating it Sensible

I used to watch TV news and yell at the box. Now I jump up from the couch, sit at the computer and begin to type laughing maniacally saying "Wait until they read this." It's more fun than squashing tadpoles

Hundreds of Illegals Have Registered to Vote in Bexar County

Don't think this is the only county in America that has this problem. Don't believe the nonsense that officials will catch them so easily. Just read to the naive comments of the person in charge.

Bexar County Elections Administrator Jackie Callanan confirmed the figures, but she says a new form of voter registration card, which requires people to swear they are citizens when they register, should help cut the problem, because people who vote illegally can be charged with perjury.

And the county has some sly ways to catch them.

"Maybe they have received a jury summons, the jury wheel relies on registered voters. They send a statement to the jury room that says they are not U.S. citizens and then we get that report immediately," Callanan says.

Is the whole of the leadership in this country so totally incompetent? It seems I can't read a single statement form some official that isn't completely clueless on any given issue but especially on illegal immigration. Not to fear however because the Senate has come up with a plan.

The proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a "Z visa" and - after paying fees and a $5,000 fine - ultimately get on track for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. Heads of households would have to return to their home countries first.

They could come forward right away to claim a probationary card that would let them live and work legally in the U.S., but could not begin the path to permanent residency or citizenship until border security improvements and the high-tech worker identification program were completed.

A new crop of low-skilled guest workers would have to return home after stints of two years. They could renew their visas twice, but would be required to leave for a year in between each time. If they wanted to stay in the U.S. permanently, they would have to apply under the point system for a limited pool of green cards.

Our elected heroes must think we are as stupid as they are. How does one justify the belief that people who are here illegally, have in many cases false ID and ignore court orders to appear when caught will just volunteer their illegal status and pay fines and wait 8-13 years for citizenship? Truth is, by the time the Senate gets through with this bill many citizens will want to declare themselves to be here illegally so they can enjoy a higher status with the government.

Watching states like Oklahoma and municipalities like Herndon, Virginia try to fight the symptoms of our alien migrant problem is disheartening, for they know the origin and solution of the problem are in Washington.

It is the President who crafted the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) agreements with Mexico and Canada expediting the flow of labor across our borders and creating the foundation for a North American Union. It is the President who on April 30, 2007 signed the Transatlantic Economic Integration agreement with the European Union.

The president is selling off on the world market our precious, hard-won national sovereignty. And whereas U.S. senators were involved in the secret meetings the president directed in the White House and Capitol on an alien labor 12-year amnesty plan, he has violated the constitutional requirement that the Congress, not the President, regulate commerce with foreign nations; and he has further failed to meet the constitutional requirement that he negotiate treaties only with congressional advice and consent.

It is also disheartening that President Bush's old associate, U.S. (West Texas) Attorney Johnny Sutton, taught two border policemen a lesson when they tried to apprehend a drug smuggler. Sutton withheld information from the defense during their trial, putting them in jail for more than a decade and destroying their family lives. And U.S. (California) Attorney Carol Lam was fired after she successfully prosecuted a large employer of illegal aliens.

Closing national borders and prosecuting employers of illegal migrant workers are good ideas, if done thoroughly by the federal government. Jobs for illegals would dry up, and many, perhaps most, illegals would go home. But, this approach cannot work since the executive branch will not adopt it.

The President has indicated the "undocumented immigrants" do jobs our citizens don't want to do. No, they are doing jobs US citizens can't afford to do while paying taxes and health insurance premiums. And they are not immigrants, because they are aliens, not interested in becoming citizens or being assimilated into our culture. The president insults the intelligence of our citizenry.

"My Country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty ......."

Liberty? When aliens invade our country at the behest of our leaders, jamming their unwanted culture down our throats, and bringing crime, failing to pay taxes, and causing overcrowded housing, schools and free medical care facilities?

While certifiable American patriots fight our enemies overseas our president sells out our country to Mexico and the European Union.

When the long-serving gallant ship, "Old Ironsides" was about to be de-commissioned and scrapped, Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote, "Aye, tear her tattered ensign down." But the American people said, "No!" Likewise, the president, our elected standard bearer, shall not be allowed to lower Old Glory in homage to any man or nation.

Is this the end of an era? The 20th Century was the United States' century. Will the 21st Century see our country ceasing to exist as a nation?

The President's SPP and TEI agreements must be abrogated.

"..... Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."
