Alito and Confirmation
If Sen. Charles Schumer's biggest complaint is that Judge Alito is conservative and if the Democrat's plan is basically to filibuster, than this looks like a done deal. If the Democrats had not been obstructionist on every issue since the beginning of the first Bush term they may have been able to maintain some credibility on this issue. Having spent their political capital on opposing the war, trying to take back tax cuts and taking an excessive stand on NSA surveillance they can hardly expect to be seen as the voice of moderation on this SCOTUS nomination.
A whole day of blovating will serve no purpose in advancing the Democrat interest. Scheduling opening remarks on the day before questioning will mean most people will skip the prognostications. In the questioning phase Judge Alito should easily dominate as did Judge Roberts.
Can't envy a party standing in the bread line with no coupons.

|Nothing like looking them in the eye and saying those fateful words Democrats hate to hear - "Yes, I'm a conservative, what of it?"
