Tallmansville and the Press
The Tallmansville, West Virginia mine tragedy suffered an additional unfortunate circumstance when the announcement of the number of survivors was discovered to be incorrect. Such things happen in high stress situations. Any time one speaks to another, the information changes just a little. In this instance I believe that the anticipation of good news was so keen that someone heard what they wished to here rather than what was said.
This is not something for the press to obsess over. Yet Listening to the press conference today, it was all they seemed to be interested in. I wish they would give it a rest. Nothing is served by their dogged questioning on this matter and any answer will only heap more anxiety on people who have had enough sorrow dealt to them to last lifetime.

|It is amazing to watch the press trying to affix blame on the evil capitalist mine management for the misunderstanding, when management expressly told everyone not to release the news. Then, when it began to look like the initial report was misunderstood, management again urged caution. They are being blamed for that because they refused to squash one unsubstantiated rumor with another!
It was the PRESS that caused this, and the proof is that many newspapers across the country still had their '12 alive' headlines the next morning. Tell me again how the press is more credible than blogs?!
