Abramoff and the Political Class
Everywhere I look I see this sentence "Washington is abuzz with discussion of lobbyist Jack Abramoff's guilty plea yesterday." or some version of it. Abramoff giving out money to gain influence, over charging clients yaddayadda. Politicians taking the money and doing his bidding yaddayadda. As if this is something new?
Call me a cynic, but I've never thought of elected officials a paragons of virtue. My father used to say we shouldn't pay congressmen just let them keep what they steal, it would be cheaper in the long run. Corruption is what you get with a professional political class.
It doesn't matter to me which side of the aisle they're on, I'm going to enjoy watching them squirm.

|But wasnt he just doing what lobbyists registered with the government are supposed to do.... bribe politicains on behalf of the lobbyists clients?
Dont lets be naive and think lobbyists dont or that prospective Senatiors spend millions (even of their own money) to be elected to an office that pays in the hundreds of thousands range.
'Course they get free postage stamps, are exempt from soc. security, have their own medical plans and a few other fringe benefits but really, arent they doing it for purely atruistic motives?
I was amused listening to the news reports on this. Essentially, they said 'Republicans are diving for cover and Democrats gleeful at the prospect that Abramoff will testify against corrupt politicians.' Abramoff lobbied both parties, and Reid took many thousands from him. So how does this equate to a Republican scandal and good for the Dems? Only in the spin rooms of the MSM...
