Once More Into the Breach

Finding Nonsense and Beating it Sensible

I used to watch TV news and yell at the box. Now I jump up from the couch, sit at the computer and begin to type laughing maniacally saying "Wait until they read this." It's more fun than squashing tadpoles

Illegal Immigrants to Teach in US

Absurdity breeds more absurdity. When a nation has a law and chooses not only to not enforce it, but to make provisions for the result of not doing so, the situation evolves into complete and udder nonsense. The illegal immigration situation in the US is falling quickly into such a state. A school district in Texas having to educate what could arguably be a large number of children of illegal immigrants now wants to hire illegal immigrants to teach them.

Superintendent Michael Hinojosa of the Dallas Independent School District says he hopes to work with other urban school systems to pursue changes that would allow hiring illegals to help fill a significant need for teachers who speak Spanish.

The idea was first proposed by school board member Joe May, who says the district should be able to hire illegals who have college degrees and are already in the United States. The aliens would go through an emergency teaching certification program.

"I can't believe the law is so rigid and inflexible not to take into account the needs of our children," Rudy Rodriguez, an education professor at the University of North Texas, told the board. "It is a big issue, a hot issue, and this is probably the only district in this country willing to address it."

What they are asking is to modify the law to allow the very activity that has led to the problem, the hiring of illegal immigrants. The taxpayers are expected to pay for the teaching of the children of people here illegally and then pay for the hiring of those same people to teach the children they have brought or bore here illegally. Only a government official could entertain such nonsense without appreciating its absurdity.

That's not all. The Mexican government has engaged the services of the PR firm Allyn & Co. To address the negative perception of Mexico in the US. Mexico's image in the US is suffering greatly from the resentment caused by the illegal immigration problem most of whom are Mexicans. Rather than address the reasons Mexicans do not want to stay in Mexico, Mexican President Vicente Fox is willing to pay Allyn & Co. $720,000 to stop "Mexico bashing."

One would think a nation's leader would be embarrassed by the vigor his people exhibited in their effort to get into another country. Not Mr. Fox, he's quite willing to enable the exodus. Next he'll be petitioning for the US to annex his nation. Well probably not, but it is the next step in this theater of the absurd.
