Once More Into the Breach

Finding Nonsense and Beating it Sensible

I used to watch TV news and yell at the box. Now I jump up from the couch, sit at the computer and begin to type laughing maniacally saying "Wait until they read this." It's more fun than squashing tadpoles

Memorial Day

Thank the Troops

While I acknowledge the great debt that I owe to those who have given their lives for my nation, I think one of the best ways to express that gratitude is to thank those who stand in the breach today. A good place to do this is at AMERICA SUPPORTS YOU , a website maintained by the Dept. of Defense that acts as a central location for charitable organizations that give aid and comfort to service members and their families. Be active in your support. Give this site a visit and find a way to show your support with a gift.

Because you are strong, I am free
Because you are brave, I am secure
Because you honor our nation, I honor your life.

Tucker's Most Excellent Day

One momentary lapse and through the back door of the feed room goes the Big White Dog. How could I be so stupid? It's like a sixth sense to him. It doesn't matter where he is in the yard, if a way is left for escape he is there like a flash and gone. Calling him or even trying to bribe him with promises of treats only cements his resolve to make good his escape. Not that he doesn't hear or understand. No, he will stop and look right at me before he bolts through the fence.

Into capture mode. Mary and I jump into the car and scoot out to the main road. She drops me at the bridge to intercept him if he tries to cross, meanwhile she drives the roads around the farm. With no immediate luck I start to follow the creek and Mary goes back to the house to wait for a neighbor to call. Another half hour and I'm calling it quits. It's hurry up and wait time. As I get back to the bridge my cell phone rings. Mary has got him and is coming to pick me up. Thank goodness for that because I'm beat.

When Mary arrives she's frantic. " Get in quick. I left the pork roast on the counter!"

As we dash to the kitchen door we can see through the window that Tucker is just lapping up the last bit of goodness from the remnants of what was a delicious treat. A most excellent day.

Hundreds of Illegals Have Registered to Vote in Bexar County

Don't think this is the only county in America that has this problem. Don't believe the nonsense that officials will catch them so easily. Just read to the naive comments of the person in charge.

Bexar County Elections Administrator Jackie Callanan confirmed the figures, but she says a new form of voter registration card, which requires people to swear they are citizens when they register, should help cut the problem, because people who vote illegally can be charged with perjury.

And the county has some sly ways to catch them.

"Maybe they have received a jury summons, the jury wheel relies on registered voters. They send a statement to the jury room that says they are not U.S. citizens and then we get that report immediately," Callanan says.

Is the whole of the leadership in this country so totally incompetent? It seems I can't read a single statement form some official that isn't completely clueless on any given issue but especially on illegal immigration. Not to fear however because the Senate has come up with a plan.

The proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a "Z visa" and - after paying fees and a $5,000 fine - ultimately get on track for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. Heads of households would have to return to their home countries first.

They could come forward right away to claim a probationary card that would let them live and work legally in the U.S., but could not begin the path to permanent residency or citizenship until border security improvements and the high-tech worker identification program were completed.

A new crop of low-skilled guest workers would have to return home after stints of two years. They could renew their visas twice, but would be required to leave for a year in between each time. If they wanted to stay in the U.S. permanently, they would have to apply under the point system for a limited pool of green cards.

Our elected heroes must think we are as stupid as they are. How does one justify the belief that people who are here illegally, have in many cases false ID and ignore court orders to appear when caught will just volunteer their illegal status and pay fines and wait 8-13 years for citizenship? Truth is, by the time the Senate gets through with this bill many citizens will want to declare themselves to be here illegally so they can enjoy a higher status with the government.
